If It's January, It's Time to Lobby

America Online wants no taxes on Internet access. Lockheed Martin wants to keep its funding for the F/A-22 Raptor fighter jet. Pepco wants to make it easier get overhead electric-transmission lines approved.

It is that time of year when Congress returns to work and local businesses send their lobbyists to the Capitol Hill clutching wish lists.

So far, the lobbyists have a pretty good track record. The Bush administration, they say, has embraced the desires of industry as the Clinton White House never did.....

If you're a Debt and Spend Republican you've got to love those business lobbies.

Looks like industry found the Clinton restrictions too cumbersome for dual use satellites.....from the previous article...

The defense industry also will ask Congress to ease restrictions on foreign sales of fighter jets and satellites. Since satellites, for example, have commercial as well as military applications, the argument goes, they should not face the same State Department review as weapons systems.

Care to make any bets as to how that will go?
