Was that glassed man on TV Irving Fisher?

Today was nothing short of a monster day for the longs. But twisted as it may be, as I was finally enjoying an up day without getting squashed, what kept buzzing through my head were Greenspan's self-serving praises about having engineered a fix for the bubble and how eerily similar and apropos they are to Irving Fisher's famous words of September 1929:

"We are living in an age of increasing prosperity and consequently increasing earning power of corporations and individuals. This is due in large measure to mass production and inventions such as the world never before has witnessed. ... This is a new and tremendously powerful factor ... and one which never before existed. ... The market has reached a permanent plateau of prosperity."

I know, I know, this time it really is different.

mish, It is like the world is upside down. Bush's fiscal recklessness is reminiscent of LBJ while the Democratic candidates are all beginning to sound like Nelson Rockefeller, ex the money, of course. <G>
