the hotel plaza loreto looked like a
really neat spot - we might try that
next time too. there were a lot of
vacancies and empty restaurants and bars.
apparently it's not 'high season'this
time of year. they say that the fishing
is better when its warmer.

we only toured to mulege - next trip we'll
do the mission in the mountains and the
oasis. every february sometime, a couple
from the u.s. holds a pig feast for gringos.
on the saturday, all the men are invited
to go up to a ranch in the mountains to
witness the pigs being slaughtered, and
then i assume they get into the piss.
at that time, this couple buys two more
piglets and gets the farmer to raise them
for slaughter the next year.

then on sunday, the pigs are cooked in
huge vats (in their own fat i guess) and
both men and women this time are invited
to partake. after the meat has been removed
the fat is cooked a little more until it
becomes crackling and everyone grabs a bit
of that.

the mountains are so beautiful. i couldn't
have imagined how lovely the desert could
be, especially at sunrise and sunset. probably
the fact that there's no pollution makes them
appear to be etched. i really loved it.
