I've been learning more about copy protection than should be required of a user.

It seems that the bonehead scheme that is causing me problems is SAFEDISK. The game is encrypted on the CDROM and the encryption key is lazer encoded onto the CDROM disk itself. The trouble comes when the game is to be loaded it runs the decryption program which also searches the system for any copy programs such as the drivers for my DVD writer.

It seems like anticompetitive behavior to make these programs not work just because I own another program.

Most advice from the internet involves breaking the encryption and copying the unencrypted game to the hard disk. Besides being a lot of hassle that is in violation of the software agreement.
