Then most people are NOT investors... probably true over say the last 10 years or so.

No, it works against some peoples [yours included I assume?] psychology in a very negative way [I guess]... I would presume once again, they are trader types. The point stands as not being relevant to investing, although I'm sure lot's of people with a one year time horizon in stocks THINK they're investing.
