hi Patrick,

they're called RFID tags (Radio Frequency ID); I don't know who makes or develops them. I'm definitely no expert on it, but currently they're pretty expensive per unit (nearly $1 per??), but in the next few years, expected to drop to a penny per tag making it a godsend to retailers for inventory and theft protection.

Wal-Mart and some grocery chain in the UK are requiring ALL suppliers to have these "lil spies" in use by next year....

now, whether it is to be installed in each and every consumer unit or no by then, I'm not sure, but there MUST be one in every shipping carton/box/pallet to enable WM to inventory merchandise in their warehouses, and even on their trucks....

only supplier of which I'm in possession of knowledge concerning, is from a stock which I own ----- G

Gillette recently said it would purchase 500 million RFID tags from Alien Technology of Morgan Hill, Calif.

don't know if AT of Morgan Hill is traded
