Look at companies like First Quantum who are operating in Zambia and the DRC. The stock has gone from $3 to $15 over the past two years. They will be opening a new big copper mine in Zambia at the end of 2004. They tripled their production from existing facilities this past year. Zambia's currency is fully exchangeable. Sure they went through their socialist phase in the 1970s,80s and 90s but they have learned their lesson. Tanzania similarly, Barrick will be opening a second mine there. Botswana has always been good, Lion Ore mines is operating there.
The discussion started because someone third hand said that the whole of Africa is in collapse mode and I responded that's wrong.
