Oh come on, you're being way too hard on Dean. He knew plenty of blacks in his youth: the maid, the chauffeur, the gardeners in The Hamptons, the pot dealer at Yale, the bellhops in Aspen, and let's not forget his local shoeshine shop when he worked on Wall St...
