That is scarey. I hope that they have protections in place. As part of approval process, they should prohibit experiments without first having mechanism available to neutralize something. This would be explored in the lengthy filing for approval process.

Heck - they are worried about using stem cells. They should be worrying about bioterrorists in our midsts and not abortion rights.

I'm not concerned about Venter, per se, as he is a responsible scientist. I'm sure that the science involved is difficult to replicate. However, as time goes by, the science will be less daunting. It's what the future holds that bother me.
