I'm not sure I can be nice to him, but I will stop attacking him as soon as he apologizes for lying about my positions and views. Moderates should at least be honest, shouldn't they?

A brief reprise:

The series started with rruff posting that the world's problems could be solved if he and Dale Baker could "grab some "world leaders", lock the door, no food until everyone agrees on solving the worlds' problems," claiming that "Most of us are reasonable and want the same thing."

I pointed out that this seemed unlikely: "When one group of people sees the very existence of Israel as critical to peace and another sees its very existence as an evil which must be destroyed before any peace can come, it's hard to see how sitting down with both sides is going to do much. Do you really think you can persuade Israel that it should disband and give the Palestinians back the land the UN gave to Israel, let alone that which Israel grabbed in war? Do you really think you can persuade Palestinians to agree that it was fair and just for the UN to take away their land and force millions of families off of land they had owned and farmed for centuries because of what Nazi Germany did?"

You will notice no attack on him at all. Mine was a balanced approach, putting forward the views of both sides and simply pointing out the complexities of the problem. But rruff accused me of being a lackey of the Palestinian movement and an extremist.

I thought this forum was supposed to be for serious discussion of issues, not for attacks on other posters.

If rruff wants to discuss serious issues seriously, I can be as nice as ever. But if he only wants to attack people because they understand history, you should tell him to find a forum where ad hominum attacks are the norm. There are lots of those.

So. I will be nice to honest posters interested in serious discussion who do not intentionally misrepresent others' posts. I see no need, frankly, to be nice to those who distort views and engage in personal attacks.

Fair enough?
