Too many misstatements to respond to, but I saw the debate in question, and the laughter was in response to the follow-up to a prior question. To take local taxes, there's a direct result of fed cutting back on state-related expenditures, and still keeping the overall tax rate high (and don't kid yourself, it's still a high tax rate). The states have to face the music and reduce services, increase efficiency or raise taxes. That's not something that can be denied.

Whether state taxes are proper or not is a different matter. What Americans have come to expect will cost more from the states, and state and local taxes will increase proportionately.

I disagree w. Dean's rollback of middle taxes, but I trust him to speak truthfully and candidly, unlike his opponents in either party.

The neocon GOP goal is to "drown gov't in the tub", and the Dem machine goal is to stay in office. My goal is accountability, and Dean comes closest to that.

No need for Dean to lie in order to win White House. Bush Adm has made so many mistakes in past few yrs that it will be easy peasey for Dean to win by simply telling the truth. That opinion is from a long-time Republican who voted for GW in 2000.
