TE, You're right. That last question was just too tempting.
Yes, the pace of "job" growth is flagging, because of technology that many will not, or cannot, keep up with. Many jobs in manufacturing are done by robots. Hell, they don't eat much, and don't get wages. That's not only not going to change, it is going to grow, leaving more entry level workers in the wake of progress. Don't get me wrong. I think that progress has gone too far in many situations. Cities that were, once, livable, and safe, have turned into metroplexes, and housing developments have ravaged the land, by destroying trees, that help produce the oxygen we breath, and wiping out the habitat of animals that are crucial to the eco-system.
I, still, maintain that labor unions were, initially, responsible for the search for labor off shore. Yes, other factors have come along to exacerbate the situation. Some of the wages, insisted upon by unions, for menial workers has gotten out of hand. We are not responsible for what happens in India, but that is one of the main reasons that the Asian Indians are flooding this country for better paying jobs. In many cases, they have a work ethic that is better than some American workers, and are displacing them which makes the unemployment look worse. It doesn't seem to be the "programmer" type that is hurting here. It is the little man without sufficient education, or, in some cases, without the will to do a days work for a days pay. Too many people are now, professional, unemployment, and welfare, takers, and nothing racist is meant when I say that. They all have their dead beats, including whites.
Unless some cooperation between the corporate world, and labor, is achieved, the problem will just get worse, but what do you suggest the government do about it? What was once corporate America, has become global enterprises, and I, personally, do not like that, but can you, or me, do about it? Bellyaching isn't any help. Blaming the administration is way off target.
Speaking of Wally-world, when Sam was alive, he insisted on selling only American made merchandise, if it was available. Now that his kids have taken over, they will buy anything from anywhere as long as it increases their pocket books. One of the things that is beginning to curse America, is greed.
I will accept the "dufus" thing as a deserved retort to my question. |
