Not much of an argument, IMHO. The book he criticizes describes very accurately how propaganda and repetition with the right symbols are very effective. His only response is "better public debate" without any discussion how that would work, how it would reach the voters he thinks have been so maligned and why it would succeed, except for the fact that his views are so right that they must prevail.

Another liberal-from-on-high type who needs to spend some time at a pub hanging out with real people instead of his ideological buddies. Why did Clinton and Blair each get elected twice?

They connected with people, they didn't just preach at them.
