Oh it doesn't surprise me at all. I had a friend who fought against the Mau Muu in Kenya. He was a platoon leader - shooting the Mau Mau became like shooting game - in fact they were joined by a S.A. white hunter for a while. Prisoners who were sent 'up the river' never made it. The interrogation of prisoners was brutal - and especially the women who were raped with Coke bottles. It changed him for ever - he was only 18-20 then - he came back an out and out racist - but he justified it by what the Mau Mau did to the British troops, and the local populace - a never ending cycle. And one has only to wait for repeorts to come in about Afghanistan, Iraq - lots of Mai Lais (sp) - lots of Mai Lais then too. But now especially there are few front line reporters and those who are there are vilified by the main stream media.
