You are missing the most important point. When looking at a chart that is cumulative, that is each point is the sum of all previous points plus some factor, the important relationship to see is the slope. If the chart was fine grained it would have shown a decline at the last quarters of the Clinton administration, a decline which is found nowhere else in 50 years.

It is no secret that there was a huge deficit at the beginning of the Clinton term. Under his wise stewardship that grew smaller each year. Under Bush it has spiked and is now on an exponential increasing slope. Pretty soon the only way to cut spending will be to default on treasury bonds at which time we will be a bankrupt nation. The sad thing is that it will happen fast, in a crash, not just more of this miserable jobless sh*t. It is going to be a big messy crash.
