I listened to some of the Dems debate last night on NPR and was struck by how foreign policy was scarcely mentioned.

Gosh, Nadine, you're much tougher than I am. I caught about five minutes of the last debate, or maybe it just seemed that long. Anyway, my tolerance for that stuff is well under a minute. I turned it on just as Dean was "answering" a question in typical politician style--briefly acknowledge the question and then change the subject to whatever you want to talk about while pretending that you're still answering the question. This stuff just makes me sick.

For about a year, Republicans and Democrats agreed on the need vigorously to prosecute the war on terror.

It was Iraq. Just about everybody went willingly into Afghanistan. Iraq was too much of a stretch for many.

They just don't get it IMO.

Look at what happened in the decade prior to 9/11. Our
official policy resulted in a steady increase both in
numbers of terrorist acts & their viciousness. OBL was
able to train many tens of thousands of recruits at
facilities in several countries, fund sleeper cells
globally & finance a growing number of ever more
sophisticated terrorist acts.

Saddam was able to thumb his nose at the Gulf War Cease
Fire Agreement, maintain a military force & WMD program in
violation of 17 UN Resolutions. And he also financed,
supported & trained terrorists, including ties with Al
Qaeda.

We saw proliferation of WMD programs to a widening sphere
of rouge regimes. N Korea took our largess, ignored terms
of agreements & built a powerful military regime with
nukes while his people starved & worse.

All the while, we dismantled our intelligence agencies & our military.

Post 9/11 - Fifty million freed from oppression. Two
governments known for major human rights violations
disposed of. Terrorists on the run. Major training
facilities for terrorists destroyed. Their financial
network under assault & one major contributor chased to a
rat hole. OBL & his top henchmen dead, in custody or on the run.

They don't like what the Bush Admin has accomplished. So
let's change our policy back to appeasement, diplomacy
& force of law again? ? ?
