What do you think Bush has been doing lately? (Largest entitlement expansion since FDR, Keynesian pump-priming & deficit spending to beat the band, protectionism to cultivate the 'Gephart voters' in the mid-West, etc.)

Sometimes you do what ya gotta do.
Entitlement expansion--I presume you are talking about prescription drug coverage under Medicare?? Well that is just one of the popular things the public has been clamoring for. In fact the Democrapic critics are claiming he didnt go nearly far enough and are promising FAR MORE. Course, in the past thats just what they were PROMISES. Ever hear the saying, "A Bird in the Hand is worth two in the Bush"?
Pumppriming--I presume you are talking about mainly tax reduction since outside of increased spending for defense and Homeland Security the rate of expansion on controllable expenses is actually LESS then it has been for years. Well, ever hear the saying, "Dont knock Success"? We are having a very rapid economic rebound now and many believe its BECAUSE of the tax reduction policies he instituted. Incidentally, our recession was MILD as recessions go and some people feel we should have let it be AWFUL to rid our system of the excesses built up in the Clinton years.
Protectionism0--Dont follow you there, only thing I can recall is the Steel Tariff. That has now been reversed BUT I noted that China opened up their country to OUR steel imports. I suspect this is going to be a BIG DEAL but very underreported in the Media and I believe it was part of the negotiation to remove the steel protection Bush initially instigated. JDN
