He could have thanked the troops in many ways besides flying a jet onto an aircraft carrier for a tailhook landing.

He could have welcomed them home at the base with the rest of America. In a blue suit, not a flight suit. and on the taxpayer dime too. Slick.

He set the stage, and it was pure PR.
