I think any 19 YO has seen a war movie. Until Bush, they probably thought, as Americans, that they'd never have to do that, but I'm sure it crossed their mind. I used to live in Oceanside, CA, and I got to know a lot of Marines from Camp Pendelton just north of me. A lot of them really were eager to go and kill people, at least if you judge them by their statements. I'm sure a lot of National Guardsmen feel totally screwed over, since they thought they'd just be called up to defend THIS country HERE.
