It is not a question of a senior or junior military man. That would be a factor if we were deciding on a general to lead a war. We are electing a President, and someone who is familiar with modern warfare, has the background and familiarity with world leaders (such as Clark has at Supreme Commander of Nato).

And then inside the beltway factor. Clinton was outside the beltway, GWB was a non beltway person and the trend will continue with Wes Clark vis-a-vis Kerry though not with Dean since he too is outside the beltway.
