When did conservatives stop encouraging "law & order" and instead condone bending laws of land if that benefits Bush campaign contributors? LOL. A little CD problem there, Ann? Is it "so many years" or is it "Bush's fault"? Illegal immigration is NOT a new phenomenon, Ann. It has NOTHING to do with Bush campaign contributors, much as you'd like to think it does. It has been a "problem" at least since Jimmy Carter's days and administrations since (except perhaps for Clinton - I don't recall him doing or saying much on the subject) have tried to find a way to "solve" the problem. Enforcement is difficult at best - and very expensive. And the incentive for workers and businesses to violate the law is too great for the modest legal risks to deter it. Nothing has worked. It's time to try something new and Bush is doing that. As I said, bring these workers out of the underground economy and into the light of day where we can regulate and tax them and their employers. You, OTOH, would apparently rather maintain the failing status quo.Another question--what will America look like if Pres Bush gets his way & we, in effect, no longer have a border with Mexico? Why does the full burden fall on American taxpayers while Mexico gets a free ride? That's two questions, but they are equally stupid, so maybe together they count as one. Nah, they're "begging the question" type questions, presuming their own answers. How 'bout you answer a couple instead? Who says we will "no longer have a border with Mexico", what does "no border" mean exactly, and what is the basis for that claim? Just what is Mexico "get[ting] a free ride" on and what " full burden" is falling on us as a result of Bush's proposed policy?
