Ann, there are already in place very serious penalties for the employment of undocumented aliens. I cant speak for California or under the counter situations but no real company will hire one today, at least not here in Fla. jdn

The idea that Americans will not do certain work is preposterous. The idea that they will not do it for minimum wage is believable. Who thinks that the minimum wage would even be an issue if we didn't have millions of illegals ready and willing to be exploited for their labor while American citizens subsidize their health care etc. Sure, it's a bargain, but not one that has been entered into fairly but by gross disregard of the immigration laws of this country. Our government would be very unhappy if this disregard of the law involved taxes or licensing autos. Your plan to let employers foot the bill is correct. Then it would be the consumer's choice to buy their higher priced goods or not, which is a REAL choice not one forced on us by collusion of business and government. This needs more transparency for the public to make an informed judgment.
