And I'd guess you'd be the expert on reality, as reported by Debka anyway. The cold war was pretty orthogonal to "democracy". The US doesn't have quite the unambiguous record the true believers would profess to, the counterexamples to democratization by the US are numerous. Even in Europe, the Morgenthau plan was given serious consideration. A reference from a source you might or might not appreciate: motlc.wiesenthal.com

Citing military funding as a % of GDP is spurious. It's more like 25% of the federal budget, if not more. Add the budget of Homeland Security and I don't know where we are, but I think it leaves a more than a few children behind.
