Not exactly, Manchu is actually one of the sub-tribe of Mongolian. If you pay a little attention, you will realize their written language is the same. Hmm... Is that really true? While both are in the Altaic family, are they any closer than say Russian and English? I know the Manchu written language is based on written Mongolian, but written English is based on the Roman alphabet, and English is not even a Romance language. From my own personal experience, you are considerably underestimating the antipathy of the native (pre-'49) Taiwanese toward the Mainland. I've seen a degree of detestation that would have resulted in riots had Jiang JingGuo attempted such a move. if Lenin lived longer, he would have returned Eastern Siberia to China. This is a new one for me. Do you happen to have some references? I've enjoyed what for me has been a stimulating conversation, and I hope it will continue. lurqer
