why our choppers are so easy to fail or kill and what can to fix the problem.

It's genetic with choppers. They are impossible to armor. The RPGs being used now are way ahead of chopper armor. Choppers must be light weight to fly.

They can defeat this with tactics. Fly High, over 2000 feet, and they can't be reached with RPGs. They have to use aircraft missles, and their aren't as many around for them to use, compared to RPGs. Iraq is full of RPGs. As common as rifles.

comment on why our choppers are so easy to fail or kill and what can to fix the problem.

Dust-off (Medivac) helicopters like the one lost yesterday are unarmed.
I have not seen a photo of it, but they are also well marked with the red cross symbol which identifies them as an ambulance. IAW the Rules of war, hospitals and medical evacuation vehicles are not supposed to be attacked.

Attack helicopters are heavily armed, have some armor protection, and travel in mutually supporting pairs or packs. Transport helicopters are lightly armed at best and must land often to pick-up and drop-off. Much of that landing is done very close to active engagements. These birds are thin-skinned and vulnerable.

Medivac pilots are usually selected for their experience under fire and their pilot expertise. They know they are saving lives and routinely risk it all to do just that.

The solution? Kill the bastards shooting at us.
