I agree with russwinter when he expressed his opinion that there is no practical difference between the $US and YEN, because Japan Inc. is simply a proxy for the dollar, and has no independent monetary policy. The EURO zone has a different view. But getting the rest of the world to follow the EURO is obviously a big challenge, and potentially costly.

In the end, it probably doesn't matter, because they are all fiat currencies. It is just of matter of degree of irresponsibility that determines who wins or loses imho.

The war as all wars are economics and it is all about JOBS and I think the Europeans mostly the French are destroying their own industry base by not trying to be receptive to the US.

IMHO if not because of the French and their attitude in general we would be in much more harmonious world. Energy prices would be lower and recovery more substantial.

For example if they had allied themselves with us in Iraq ....... Iraq woudl be by now a much peacefull place and some very positive developments could happen including the Arab - ISraeli conflict. Instead almost openly France turns a blind eye on terror financing from EZ funds to "show" they are a power to the US. All this increasing the price of oil.

France is not as dependent on oil imports or natural gas as the US, due to their nuclear reactor based electricity generation. Therefore another tool in their war against the US is holding oil prices up due to covert assistance of the unrest in Iraq,
