China's north-east makes pitch for new funds
Governors of three provinces also vow to crack down on corruption to reverse years of decline

BEIJING - The governors of China's three north-east rust belt provinces yesterday launched a joint sales pitch here aimed at attracting hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign investment and new loans to revitalise the country's run-down industrial heartland.

The three provinces, home to thousands of inefficient state-owned manufacturing and heavy-industry enterprises, have been hit hard by the economic reforms of the past few years, with millions of state workers laid off and no new industry to absorb them.
