Raw coal output over China reaches 1.608 bln tons in 2003 Shanghai. (Interfax-China) - According to statistics posted by the State Administration of Work Safety, China produced a record-high 1.608 bln tons of raw coal in 2003, 0.215 bln tons or 15% more than the 2002 level. Of the total, the major state-owned coal enterprises produced 808 mln tons of raw coal, representing an increase of 15% year-on-year, local state-owned coalmines saw their output reach 283 mln tons, registering a yearly growth of 7%, while township coalmines finished produced 517 mln tons, up 24% over 2002. The production volume at the three categories of mine accounted for 50%, 18% and 32% of the national total. In 2003, the coal railway delivery volume reached 880 mln tons across the country, recording an annual rise of 62 mln tons (or 7.52%) and constituting over 50% of total coal output. Over the past year, 1.52 bln tons of coal was sold, surging by 17% or 0.225 bln tons year-on-year. By the end of December of last year, coal stockpiles fell to 109 mln tons, dropping by 8.57 mln tons or 7.29% on a yearly basis. The cost of coal production rose slightly by 2.06% from 2002 to RMB 123.87 (USD 14.97) per ton in 2003, while the price inched up by 3.58%, to reach RMB 173.81 (USD 21.00) per ton. interfax.com
