I like the heat, but I would rather be a little further east where there are pine trees. Mostly, I think it is a friendly state.

Diversity. Not just in the people, but in the geography too. From one of the National Forests in East Texas to the sandhills of West Texas, from raw hard scrabble country such as Big Bend National Park in the Chihuahuan Desert following the Rio Grande, to the rolling hills and rivers and lakes of east Texas hill country. We have the plains and canyons of the northwest to the Rio Grande valley and it's citrus production in the Southeast. We have the Gulf of Mexico with beaches up and down the South Texas coast, to the Guadalupe, Davis or Chisos Mountains of the trans_Pecos region.

We are the largest cotton producer in the States, accounting for about 25% of the nations cotton crop, amounting to somewhere in over the range of 5 million bales per year catagory. More than 1/4 of all the States oil reserves are in Texas and about 23-25 percent of the oil produced in the USA is produced in Texas. Texas is second in the nation for the overall number of different plant and animal species with a total of 6,273 species. Texas hosts more species of birds (477) and reptiles (149) than any other state, and that Texas has the second-greatest number of species of mammals (159) and vascular plants (4,509). Texas ranks third in the number of endemic species, with 340 species found nowhere else in the world. (and I won't even talk about the B-1 sized mosquitoes! haha)

No snow skiing in Texas, but we only have to jump over one state to go. Texans are used to driving, for in you come into the state at Perryton Texas and drive to McAllen, will will put about 914 miles on your car, or from El Paso Texas going to Texarkana, a bit closer at 814 miles.

As to why Texans love it? Who knows? <g>

Texas has it all, the heat in the South, cold in the panhandle. It's got the ocean, miles of beaches, thousands of acres of forests, caves, flat lands and rich rolling hills.

And it's got the people. Texans are extremely friendly.
