UMC Sales Climb

Pure play foundry behemoth United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) today reported its sales for December 2003 climbed 51.8 percent over sales for December 2002.

The news reflects an ongoing trend that has shown foundry sales rising for all big players.

UMC's December 2003 sales reached $248 million (NTD8.3 billion). For November, UMC reported sales of $226 million (NTD7.7 billion).

The Taipei-based foundry also saw a strong sales increase for the year at 25.9 percent.

For the year 2003, UMC posted sales of $2.5 billion (NTD84.9 billion). That compared to 2002's $2.0 billion (NTD67.4 billion).
