The Road to Damascus. Oh well get ready for the inevitable media blitz, as stories about this start to pick up pace and we get the politicos in on it. Syria has not denied having WMDs, or that it has ongoing development. I think their argument is based upon the fact the "Israel has them, then so do we" principle. Personally, I see no reason why Saddam would hide his weapons in Syria, and hide himself with cash in a hole in Iraq. It may be true, or it may be false. There is currently no real evidence to arrive at either conclusion. The fact is that the pro-war contingent are trying to explain their failure to find anything in Iraq. (As if it was really important) Remember Rumsfelds logic against Blix: "If you can't find them; it is proof that he has them." (Straight out of Logic For Witchburners, Part 1). They (those releasing the stories) are simply doing the same thing now. "If there not here; it is proof he has hidden them in Syria." There is absolutely nothing that will convince The Powers That Be against this fact, if it is needed to justify past or future actions. They have now reached a point where they will believe any story that supports their pre-conceptions, or the stories that have been the driving force of this current wave of Pax Americana. People are telling the Americans exactly what they want to hear. In the same way that feuds in Afghanistan were settled by people informing the US that Taliban and Al-Qeada were in the next village, and allowing the USAF to do the rest. Or the Iraqi National Congress, telling the US that they would be met by garland-wearing children singing their praises. N.B. I am not saying that he does/did not have any WMD, rather that there is no evidence to arrive at any conclusion. There is simply hearsay and rumour. It is called the Defector's Principle - tell your interrogator what he wants to hear in such a way that it can never be verified. He values you more highly and both sides are happy. -macavity
