I suppose that might depend on how badly the U.S. really wants to stop the use of underpaid illegal workers.

Sadly, not.

We already vote for underpaid workers by buying at Wal-Mart and other discount stores which are well known to buy much of their merchandise from low wage countries.

We like cheap food. We don't want to pay $1.50 for a head of lettuce so that the folks who pick it can earn a decent wage. Even the union workers who are so fierce about good wages for their jobs want to stretch their dollars on the backs of low wage illegals.

No. We really don't want to stop this. It makes profits for companies and low prices for us. Who would want to stop that?

Frankly, I don't have any good answers to offer to a country that has grown so addicted to an underground economy based on the hiring of illegal immigrants, and to offshore sweatshop manufacturing facilities.

Nobody does.

I will patiently await convincing.

Your patience will be well tested.
