The AP-Ipsos poll of 1,000 adults, including 774 registered voters, was taken Jan. 5-7 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. I had lunch on Thursday with a friend, an Independent like me, who I don't think has never voted for anyone other than a Republican. He (white, male, married) brought up the subject of the election and how much this country needs an Independent candidate, one not so stuck in the political machine. It really surprised me because he always defends Bush when I grouse about him. What brought it on was apparently the immigration thing. Later I got an email from him that said he was going to look into Edwards. So, I'm wondering if this guy is an exception or whether the polls may look different next week.
