Ten,

Good post. Nobody can throw blame, at least until the facts come out (though I don't understand why the administration is not fully cooperating in the investigation). Before the reality of 9/11, it you had told most folks that we had spend $billions to defend against terrorists hijacking four planes to fly into the WTC's, the pentagon and the white house, they would have said your nuts. After the reality, it's easy to say "how could we miss that?".

The disturbing part to me is not that they let 9/11 happen, it's how the administration is using it to fulfill their prior agenda. It seems that a huge, shocking tragedy (repeated over and over on TV) can make people stupid, and susceptible to any kind of convoluted logic, as long as there is action. And this admin is long on convoluted logic.

John

Ted, here's the bottom line. Several people had sneaky suspicions, especially in both the Clinton and the Bush administrations, not to mention the intelligence community. But none of those suspicions were urgent enough to act upon. We don't know how good the intelligence information was itself, but we do know that the interpretation of it got muddled in the incredible bureaucracy of the federal agencies in charge.

Ten, in the summer of 2001, the Germans warned the US three times that one or more hijackings was planned for September. However, German Intel did not know that the hijacked planes were to be used as bombs.

Apparently, the German warnings were ignored by the US gov't much to the frustration of the Germans. From all that I've read, German Intel ranks up their with Israeli Intel, and is far better than ours, the Brit's or the French.
