that's unfortunate.

The portfolio and related quote features
are handy on SI, IMHO.

Bob,

I agree with you that quotes and charts are no big deal as they are easily obtained elsewhere (although it is nice to click on a stock thread and see how the stock is doing).

But portfolios are fairly integral to SI - for example they are used in the Biotech Stock Picking for Charity thread:

Subject 54496

End-of-day prices might be good enough - maybe there's some way of getting them cheap.

Bob,

Portfolio was the major reason I checked into SI each day. It was(is?) far better than others on internet. IMO traffic at SI will probably dry up completely without portfolio feature.
That said, something is amiss with portfolio today after yrs of solid consistency.

The SI charts are really sloppy today so far, with many hourly charts biting the dust.... Too bad they are going away.

What would it cost per month/year for you to get the service. I'm a free member and wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for port and whatever.

Bob:

As you said, there are plenty of other places to get free quotes and charts, and to store portfolios.

I am using at present 3 different services where I can get up to the minute stock quotes, charts, portfolios, scanning, etc.

However, I think it is very convenient to have some of that information available on SI and that the lack of it will be a serious detriment to many threads and it will certainly dry up comments and overall participation.(That is of course on MHO)

Bob
I've be very disappointed if SI dumped the quotes and portfolios.
Charts i could live with out(but do like the comparative charts)

My own philosophy is that a message board should just be a message board, and that there are plenty of other places to get free quotes and charts, and to store portfolios

well then, on those grounds
When are you going to add a feature that corrects misspelled words?<G/ng>
