orca, We were talking about Nam, not the present situation. Bush is letting the military commanders wage this war, which is how it should be. Nam was run, strictly, by the politicians, the guiltiest of these being JFK, and LBJ. Regardless of what Nixon did wrong with the Watergate thing, he hastened our withdrawal from a wasteful war.

Who will say "we don't need a military?" It was the Clintons that no bones about how much they hated the military, refused to let them wear their uniforms in the White House, and said enough for Chelsey to go around and tell them that her parents hated them. On the other hand, Bush has brought the military back from the rim of extinction, and wherever he goes, the military cheer him without prompting, which is a contrast to the cold welcome they gave Hillary.

If the military is only to be used for National defense, then I guess you think that we should have let Spain kick us around, and the Germans rule all of Europe. That's what would have happened had we not used our military to stop their plans. Bush has the only exit plan that any President should have. We exit when the bullets stop flying, and not before. The fear that our military put in the Islamic terrorist, is why the attacks in the US have stopped, so far. Our troops being in Iraq, are saving lives here in America. I don't know if that means anything to Canadians, or not.
