What gets forgotten by the advocates of the American poor, sick, and downtrodden is that the Chinese don't give a **** about the American poor, sick, and downtrodden. Far less than American Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians do. Most of them actually do give a ****. Some just think their philosophy is the best way out and leave it at that. Some take more active steps. But few really, truly don't give a ****. We all know that there but for the grace of whatever gods there may be go we. The Europeans, including some on this site, are screaming with glee at the apparent stumble and fall of the United States and its currency. There's a fact that your introduction hits on that they miss: It's not simply that they are also on the Chinese and Indian menus; they are on the menu before we because of their overregulation and extensive social programs. They are much more vulnerable and much less adaptable and this will soon be proven to them. We stand a chance of regaining our stature because of our greater flexibility; unless Europe undergoes major political and social change, Outer Mongolia is likely to be more important than it 50 years from now. A few posts stolen from Galapagos Islands:Message 19669801 I've become increasing suspicious that Jorj is onto something here with that "Kondratieff Winter" comment. If true, this could get MUCH worse than it already is. Here's XYZ saying essentially what you and I are:Message 19669726 And XYZ again.Message 19669862 Education: I don't think AMerican education ever WAS all that good- -at least below the university level. Am I wrong? There has always been a strong anti-intellectual strain in this country, I think. Contrast this with the Asians. And much of our current success is owed to our success in attracting the best products of good foreign universities, particularly Asian. And if we are to survive this in decent shape, THAT has got to change. But I defy anyone to prove that throwing more money at the problem is the answer. Unless that money gets the current generation of American parents to give a **** about their kids academic performance.Facts such as the third world is full of people that are willing to work for next to nothing. Yes. And the fact that American Democrats or the American liberals don't like that won't change it one whit.At the same time, the US is a victim of its own success... I mean you went out and taught all the manufacturing and business principles to the rest of the world... I mean you were the ones that invented capitalism and told Europe that monarchies were history, told Latin America that "Conquistadores and tyrannical Presidentes" are now passee... and told China, Russia and every other Communist nation they were wet in their pants with their idiotic philosophies.... Another good point. The word is on the street now. Everyone knows how to do it. There are only two Worker's Paradises left and they are pitied much more than envied. However, XYZ is convinced that Jorj is smoking something when he dreams of Kondratieff:Message 19676655 I hope he's right. We shall see. Whether we want to or not.
