The discussion to which you linked me, looked akin to a classic "end justifies the means" argument. In my mind, in this case, the wrong was on two levels. One, the means almost always "taints" the end in both subtle and profound ways - not all of which are readily apparent. Second, the "end" was both both perverted and simplistic - i.e. not a desirable end to begin with.
