At any rate, forcing Sikhs to remove their turbans is insane. As if we needed confirmation, France is crazy.

This head scarf thing is most likely a way to capture some extreme right wing votes since this would be another stupid hot button for the latter to use against the mainstream right. The left plays the extreme right against the mainstream right all the time, Mitterand was a master at that. Extreme parties with no chance of actually running the country can very well decide election outcomes, witness Ralph Nader here. And we saw Le Pen in the first round of the last French elections, thanks to all the nutcase parties draining mainstream votes.

Usually, attempting to get extreme right wing votes in this manner backfires in the end though.
