We have bases in Turkey, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to name three ME states.

None of which is an example of violently imposing our politics or policies.

We sent Marines into Lebanon in the 80s to participate in their civil war.

We sent Marines into Lebanon to try to restore some order and prevent violence not to participate in the civil war.

We helped orchestrate the overthrow of the Shah in Iran.

We mainly stopped supporting him. A better example of intervening in the politics of the Middle East was imposing him in the first place but that was a long time ago and didn't require a lot of violence on out part.

We attacked Iranian ships in the Arabian Gulf during the 80s.

We conducted operations to ensure safe passage of oil. We responded to attacks on threats.

We defended Kuwait in the Gulf War.

Exactly we defended Kuwait. Iraq initiated force to effect political change.
