From Briefing.com semiconductor related news: 8:13AM CHPC: Checks indicate Sandisk added as major customer -- WR Hambrecht 8.71: Based on checks from the Taiwan trip and Consumer Electronics Show, WR Hambrecht has learnedthat ChipPAC has added SanDisk as a major customer. Firm believes ChipPAC is set to manufacture Secure Digital (SD) in 2004 and mini-SD in2005. The SD card is the fastest growing card in the world and for Sandisk, based on firm's estimates, is also the #1 revenue generator since Q2:03.

8:01AM Morgan Stanley raises 2004 capex forecast; previews Semi Equip earnings : Morgan Stanley believes that fundamentals in Semiconductor Capital Equipment have improved significantly since guidance was provided in Oct/Nov, and thus firm sees upside to guidance for most companies in the space; sees a 15-20% increase in bookings across the board, followed by guidance for another 20% bookings growth in 1Q04. Firm sees most of the upside in 4Q03 coming from Asian chipmakers. Raises its 2004 capex forecast to $38.8 bln, up 30% y/y and higher than firm's previous forecast of 20-25%.

7:02AM Hewlett-Packard plans to invest in Singapore -- WSJ (HPQ) 24.68: The Wall Street Journal reports Hewlett-Packard plans to relocate some of its manufacturing operations from the U.S. to Singapore. The co will be spending more than $1 bln over five years to upgrade it as the company's Southeast Asian manufacturing hub.
