If we get voted out in democratic elections in Iraq; we should leave, period; and not whine about it, like some have done here ad nauseum after the last presidential elections.

Those twin setbacks raise questions about who would have to reach an agreement with the United States that would allow more than 100,000 American troops to remain in the country after power is handed over to the Iraqis this summer

I hardly call these incidents setbacks; they are part of the process of democracy. Al-Sistani has a perfect right and dare I say, an obligation to fight for the rights of the people he represents. Establishing a democracy means all sides have to compromise, unless we want to rule Iraq like Saddam did. If in the end, the new gov. wants us out, then we should go. That is their right to accept responsibility for their country. Of course that also means they have to accept the consequences.
