A lot of people have been saying it. After all, what could be more natural for Saddam than supporting Ansar against the Kurds? I would have to find the references as they are old now. I remember reading Hersch (?) long article from Kurdistan from 2002 where the Kurds said the same, and let the journalist interview their Ansar prisoners to confirm it, but the CIA didn't seem much interested. Ansar al Islam was a major problem for the Kurds while Saddam was in power.
