That addition of (self) projecting "hate" is already much more severe. If I hate Hillary and love Bush, then..hmm..them-there-those must hate Bush and love Saddam, yes?? In multiparty system there are special "them-there-us-hate" parties, which then usually start practicing that within their own (little) party. In center-based multi-party system these "them-there-us-hate-parties" cannot even swing any election, as the center and some of the other major parties easily can achieve a majority. (this does not yet work in France, but they are improving and reforming) PS The run-off system takes care of it for the presidential system, above is a question for congress and how to form the government. (plus how the media works)
