I believe The US is by far the largest net exporter of food in the world. From a quick web search... the US was projected to provide 25% of the world's wheat exports and 50% of the coarse grain exports in 2003. Canada is almost certainly the #2 net exporter.

This is just for grains but this is the most basic foodstuff.

I agree with the sentiment that for the most part farm subsidies do more harm than good in providing for efficient resource allocation. And after years (decades?) of argument I thought farm subsidies were being phased out... until they dropped this plan.
