Jay,
Bon voyage, as they say.
The one destination I need to reach is Bora Bora. I have been obsessed by its beauty since I first saw a picture of it.

My dollop of PAL has been on a tear this week. I am thinking that it may be getting ahead of itself but will watch the price of Pd to see whether I should take some profits and buy back. It has a little more to run before I consider it overbought.

Gold stocks continue to correct. I see this as a fundamentally healthy situation and may buy a little more if the price drops enough. I am looking for juniors or and perhaps DROOY to replace NEM and my fidelity select gold mutual fund.

Energy continues to perform well and I will play the seasonal pop in energy going through May. My biggest holding continues to be TMR with a large holding of Fidelity Select Energy Service.

I have taken a serious hit with my biotech holdings of Celgene which has disappointed the street by warning on next quarter's earnings. I am getting killed on my AMZN puts, holding my own on BEARX and losing on interest puts through Rydex Juno Fund. The scenario of rising interest rates and declining stock values doesn't seem to playing out yet.

BTW, does anyone know what happened to kitco.com. It doesn't seem to be there and my browser states that it can't find such a web site.

Brazil retaliates with kisses

Financial Times; Jan 14, 2004

Jay this is what I call ending in pizza!!

US citizens coming to Brazil this year have been getting a taste of their country's own tightened immigration policy, having to roll their fingers in ink and pose for a delinquent-style photograph. But at least those clearing customs in Rio de Janeiro are being greeted by a welcoming committee.

Lacking the sophisticated equipment of US immigration officials, their Brazilian counterparts have been taking ages to process an aircraft full of Americans - even after realising they didn't need prints of all 10 fingers.

This had nationalist-minded politicians jumping up and down with glee: José Alencar, vice-president, said reciprocating against the US measure "made Brazilian democracy grand".

Yet, with Carnival coming up, Rio de Janeiro's tourism operators didn't think any of this was good for publicity. So they hired a couple of scantily clad girls to give a warm embrace to the finger-tainted travellers. Their welcoming package comes with a "Rio loves you" T-shirt, a fresh-cut rose and a necklace from H. Stern, a Rio-based jeweller.

Most US visitors seem not to mind Brazilian security controls one bit.

Jay, we have savoir faire, Jay. Word of the mouth spreading, not to mention digital cameras, will make this carnival very good for the touristic industry there.

Propbelm it iwll keep those guys with the money bags that prefer not to be photographed out, and this is not good for the economy...

Jay, that was probably the vast number of CDMA phragmented photons bending you around. NZ is full of them [about half the market]. Not to mention the shift in the Gravitational Constant due to the Q acceleration to 600. It's an inflationary universe and it's speeding up. The forces are fantastic.

Happy Monkey Year, [I suppose a monkey year is going to be as funny as a barrel of monkeys and as chaotic].

PS: A report from the front lines received today: <While in Xi'An we went to a club that was full of Chinese without a western presence (except us) - something I hadn't experienced here in Beijing. It was great to see them doing what seems to be done everywhere in the world... wasted on all sorts of substances, listening to techno Lionel Ritchie remixes (I kid you not!?!), throwing up in the toilet, passing out on the ground topless, asleep on tables, hot girls dancing seductively for their boyfriends, other jealous girlfriends whose boyfriends are checking out the hot girls dancing seductively, friends literally dragging their unconsious mates (who have thrown up in the toilets) home... all that was missing was a good fight at the end of the night! Perhaps the periodic military patrol discourages it?

The train down to Xi'An was an experience well worth having. I'm glad I had the chance to try the 'hard sleeper'. The Chinese can fit a LOT of people on a train here (I have NO idea how many, but there must have been 2 or 3 thousand on ours) and not uncomfortably! It took about 13 hours, we had a bed to sleep on (bunks 3 high), and the trip was smooth, cheap and surprisingly... well, almost luxurious! However, that 'adventurous' train ride was put in perspective by the one and a half our flight back to Beijing. Planes all the way I say!! 8-)
>

It seems the global lowest common denominator is being resolved in all nooks and crannies of Earth in a cultural renaissance. Snoop Dog is alive and well deep in China's hinterlands it seems.
