I think you're absolutely wrong...

Because it would be very difficult, politically, to support them were they NOT a democracy.. Even by me..

After all, our strategic interests in the region lie with the oil producing Arab states, not with a dictatorial or theocratic Jewish enclave..

And if you bothered to read (let alone understand and remember) your history, you'd know that the US governments physical support for Israel did really commence until after 1967 when it was clear that the Soviets were ramping up their support for the Arab aggressions against the country.
