A coming grain shortage is certainly plausible as income rises in the emerging world. Protein intake will rise with income and grain consumption by livestock will rise very rapidly as only 10% energy is transferred from one trophic level to another. Anyone got any ideas on the best way to play this outside of the commodity markets? Any appropriate stocks? I was thinking maybe DE or some of the fertilizer companies. Archer Daniels Midland is in this arena but it seems that there costs will go up.
