Barry, I have not forgotten about our discussion of the Holy Spirit and your verses in John that you referred to.

My denomination believes that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is evidenced initially by the speaking in tongues.

I believe that it is a baptism of fire or boldness and that it came on the day of Pentecost while the believers were waiting in Jerusalem.

After the baptism they were then prepared to boldly go and tell of the good news.

It doesn't mean that that the Holy Spirit will not use other gifts and or other people with other gifts, it merely means in my view that God has chosen to use certain individuals with this gift and why is the question of fire or boldness. You have to admit that certain individuals are really sold on spreading the gospel and shall not be denied the opportunity.

You then have the gift of speaking in tongues and the interpretation of tongues and its association in the use of interpretation.

Reminding myself of the Cor. `13th chapter..where it says that though I speak with the language of angels and have not love it profits me nothing.

Whatever gift we receive from God we must use them in love. If the Holy Spirit so chooses to give a person the gift of tongues then it can be misused unless used in love. Actually the book of John says that it is Christ that gives the baptism of the Holy Spirit not the Holy Spirit.

For whatever reason whenever a gift is given the giver has a purpose for giving it and wants the receiver to use the gift in a certain way...In Christ...gregor

ps......reading also in John I have found where the 'coat ' that Christ wore and the same coat that the soldiers cast lots for was more of a tunic or vesture and not a vestment or robe....thus the seamless garment was more of an undergarment....still reading up on this one..I feel it has some implications....in Christ..
