It couldn't have really been done much differently. It was gonna be contentious, no matter what. The issue was that the U.N. was never willing to stand behind what it created. If the U.N. had sent in troops to the Israeli border in 1948 to prevent a war, we wouldn't have these problems today.

The UN didn't support its creation because the Brits had changed their minds about a Zionist Israel well before the UN vote. And then right after the UN vote, Truman changed his mind. He did send military aid but it was because the Zionists were under duress and not because Truman thought he had done the right thing. The Zionists pushed for their independence and got it; however, it was not a clean victory and that's why they are paying the price now.

Its disturbing that the Likud is so weird. They have a lot of power in Israel.

There's no imminent solution. Anyone who claims there is is off the mark, IMO.

I hear ya!
